You’ll need to get an “ISP” - Internet Service Provider. They will let you know the steps to get up and running with their internet service.

If he is putting a wireless network card in it, all you will need to do is to get a wireless router, and if you already have a DSL or cable internet connection, you will be able to connect to it, and get online anywhere in the house. If you have a desktop computer, you can plug it directly in, and you can even set it up to allow you to share files between your laptop and desktop.

High speed internet comes to you in two flavors, DSL and cable.

From there, you would need a wireless router. The router manages all the computers connecting to it, and they all share that high speed connection. In order to connect to that router, your computer would need a wireless adapter. This wireless adapter allows you to connect to that router, or other wireless routers such as a wi-fi hotspot at Starbucks, McDonalds, etc.

A dialup card is a card where you plug a phone line into your computer, and your regular phone line. The speed is way slower.

    Hope that helps.

the high-speed card he’s probably referring to is a wired ethernet adapter, not wireless. you will have to purchase a seperate wireless (wi-fi) card and connect a wireless router to your modem. if you subscribe to high-speed internet, most companies will usually help you get setup for free as part of the cost of their service
